A crumbling colonial-influenced town, likely to feature as an overnight stop on the Pan-American highway through the Avenue of Volcanoes. Riobamba is flanked with luscious scenery, towering mountains and the Chimborazo Volcano. If you have time to explore the Monasterio de las Conceptas, Parque Maldonado, Riobamba Cathedral and the Municipio are well worth a visit. The town is historically significant in Ecuador’s independence as this was the place where the first constitution was signed in 1830.
