Set in tranquil and expansive gardens, this 17th Century hacienda has a rustic charm and has been lovingly restored. Located in a tiny town around two hours’ drive north of Quito, Hacienda Cusin certainly feels remote and the hotel is surrounded with breath-taking views of the countryside and imposing Imbabura volcano. It is just 20 minutes’ drive from the bustling markets of Otavalo, so makes a great base to visit this region.
Tasteful and colourful rooms are warmly furnished with traditional fabrics and antiques. Beamed ceilings are commonplace and many have log burning fireplaces for the chillier months. While great for a spot of relaxation, many activities can also be arranged locally. These include reasonably priced horse riding for varying levels of experience, mountain biking and walks in the local area.
