Crumbling Pinsaqui has a long history and a fair amount of rustic charm. Built in the late 18th century as a textile workshop, it was converted into a guesthouse in later years. Famous guests are said to include General Simon Bolivar on numerous occasion, perhaps while negotiating the continent’s independence. Just two hours’ drive from Quito, and a short drive from Otavalo this hacienda makes a convenient base. Local towns of Cotocachi and San Antonio are close by, famous for their leather and wooden handicrafts respectively.
